ARCHITECTURAL SERVICES

I’ve got the ability and the institutional knowledge base to cover just about anything. Combine that with endless curiosity and enthusiasm for research, and you end up with a me. 20+ years in a career field starting with learning the tech before I had a driver’s license.

Personally, I believe that design should be accessible to everyone – no matter the scale of your particular problem or skill set.

Some of the greatest people that I know – don’t have a sense of spatial awareness, or can’t visualize what 2D lines on a page represent. Admittedly – If I didn’t draw it, I don’t always 100% know either.

Individual

Builder’s Set of model homes will be coming to this site.

  • If you want a jump start on realizing an architect-designed home and wish to avoid the plan-factory McMansion or development village where everything looks the same and/or won’t grow as life progresses – I may be a resource for you.
  • If you’re looking for a nickel’s worth of free advice over coffee on your set of plans? A quick doodle so you can more effectively communicate with your contractor before they demo half your kitchen? I may be a resource for you.
  • Looking for a tool or product to help you solve a problem? I may be a resource for you.

Regardless of the scope of your project, regardless of the scale – I want to help. I may be a resource.

Working at a Firm and need a hand?

Having been on both sides of this issue before – I understand the short-burn project or the short-term needs that you might have at your firm.

Having more things to do than you have people to do them and short-staffing until your backlog fills back up can be a dicey place to be in. Things don’t get done, concessions have to be made. You’ve been running lean for over a year to keep the doors open – the staff you have is pulling long hours, fighting burn out, or just making lateral moves to other firms… Trust me – I’ve been there. It’s not fun.

You need a task-rabbit with the skill set to help move things forward, without the 4 week interview process or negotiating with temp agencies who won’t deal with a 1-week contract. I may be a resource for you.

QA/QC

In a lot of places that I’ve worked, if the redline process happened – it was done by a senior person in the office in their ‘spare time’ who may of may not be associated with the project.

Checking documents & models for clarity and consistency isn’t one of those tasks that most people on the team will fight to do. It usually takes attention to detail and a proper mindset.

If you’re looking for a once-over on a project before it heads out the door – I’ve been known to wield the “red pen of clarity” over projects.

All sorts of things get farmed out to 3rd party resources. Need an extra set of eyeballs on your documents? I may be a resource for your project team.

Existing Conditions Documentation

You just won an RFP and the project kicks off in a week or two. You need something to put in front of the client that will impress & a solid model to hit the ground running toward your deliverable deadline.

This ocean side 180-key full service resort was a project like this.

10 days before the official project kick-off, this project was a pile of scanned PDFs in a shared folder on DropBox, with a handful of photos from the project walk-thru.

  • Flat-rate fee was established on an email agreement. Whatever I make per hour is on me.
  • Delivered in full in 10 days – complete with a room matrix, demo interior components, & existing electrical + a report on things that needed to be field verified as they didn’t align with what was drawn.
  • It took 7 days to document a scanned abandoned church complex property out in Los Angeles, complete with fit plans & a prelim layout for conversion to a rental property. Whatever I make per hour is on me.
Custom Content

I’ve been doing this for years. Build all the parts, so you can communicate and schedule all content. Communicate design.

Drawings are a picture narrative of design intent. Specifications are the narrative of acceptable materials & installation to realize the drawings.

RARELY does a missed detail result in cost savings. If your documents aren’t accurate depictions of the intended outcome – the project ends up costing more.

Now you need a custom element/cabinet/door/widget in your model. There’s nothing in the library that comes close.

Your options are to submit a help request to the BIM staff who are too busy to get to it until next week OR build it yourself and burn hours and fee that you don’t have. Neither is a terribly efficient way of getting the end result that you need.

Here’s where I can help.

Whether you’re a manufacturer who wants to provide BIM content as part of sales motivation, or you’re on the design side/user end of the relationship that needs an element and the PM is going to blast you if you spend a couple days of fee building it out – I can help.

Head to the ‘Contact’ button in the upper right and send me a cut sheet or a design sketch and I can send you something to keep you moving.

All Projects, Great and Small

coffee, caffeine, beverage-2425303.jpg

Whether you’re at a firm and need a couple weeks of help figuring out a stair tower, or a simple doodle because you’re not sure if the sofa you want to buy will actually fit in your space – a problem solver with spatial reasoning ability is good to have on hand.

Solutions don’t always need to involve lawyers, contracts, head-hunters and extended employment agreements. Sometimes all it takes is coffee and an iPad.

It doesn’t even have to be me. Architects are all over the place. Talk to a friend or two – someone knows one of us. If they don’t – there’s that ‘Contact’ button up there.

That said – If you’re looking for all of these abilities wrapped up in a single package as an asset to your firm & clients for the long term – I’m also available.
